What is the main idea of the game?

No matter if you gathered together as a family or as a cheerful company of friends - PictoricBox will make you even closer to each other.

Put off your gadgets and choose a real-live communication.

PictoricBox will impress you with its varieties of the game scenarios, where you can choose how you'd like to play. As well, you will be pleasantly surprised to see unique high-quality illustrations on each card, which were made by Ukrainian artists and little exclusive elements of the game will help you to boost your imagination! We promise - it is going to be love from the first sight.

Besides that, the most essential part of the game is that your company will find out a lot of new things about your close friends and of course you will have so much fun while you are going to play. Play with scenarios in "no secret" or in "private game", indeed you can create your own rules.

The game consists of:

- One flexible magnetic field

- Six funny colorful magnetic "Pictorics" (player's chips)

- Six dices, which matches with the "Pictorics" (in accordance with the color)

- More than one hundred unique gaming cards, authorship of Ukrainian illustrators

History of the game

Our team worked hard for one common goal - is to unite people though Ukrainian art. And we did it! The art has never been so close, easy, fun and even casual.

Sky Art Foundation has been successfully working with Ukrainian artists for many years. Therefore, it is not surprising that the idea to make art approachable to everyone appeared exactly in such a community, where is the main goal is to bring people together. And we wanted to make it in the most creative way.

Sky Art Foundation, together with the group of pictoric.ua, has been preparing a lot of interesting things around a year to create the possibilities for you to enjoy spending your time in a lively conversation.

The PictoricBox game is a flight of fancy of many creative people and we hope to bring you into our family.

Graduated from the Kyiv National Academy of Visual Arts and Architecture, book design study program. She designs books, posters, and embroideries. She is teaching at the Department of Graphic Arts in the National Academy of Visual Arts and Architecture. Lives and works in Kyiv.

Painter and illustrator

Obtained an MA in book graphic design in the Kyiv National Academy of Visual Arts and Architecture. Participated in the Per-art International art festival “Black sea space poetry” (Romania), Book Arsenal (Ukraine), “Children’s illustration” (Georgia), Kyiv Comic-Con (Ukraine), exhibitions and art festivals. He is an active member of the “Pictoric” club of illustrators. Lives and works in Kyiv.

Anna Sarvira
Painter and illustrator

She graduated from the Kyiv National Academy of Visual Arts and Architecture, where she acquired art education. She was awarded the Gaude Polonia scholarship in 2013. She is also a co-founder of the “Pictoric” club of illustrators. She took part in the Bologna children’s book fair international illustration exhibition (2017). She lives and works in Kyiv.

Julia Tveritina
Painter, іllustrator

Obtained postgraduate education of book graphics in the Kyiv National Academy of Visual Arts and Architecture. She cooperates with galleries and publishers in China, Japan and South Korea. She has got a young artists scholarship from the President of Ukraine. She is an active member of the “Pictoric” illustrators club. Lives and works in Suzhou, China.

Valerij Tykhoniuk
Artist, illustrator

Painter, book graphic designer, a professor at the department of graphic arts in Kyiv State University of Arts and Crafts named after Mykhailo Boychuk. He graduated from the National Academy of Visual Arts and Architecture in Kyiv (book design studio of Vasiliy Chebanyk). He does book styling, illustrations, and calligraphy researches scripture graphics. Lives and works in Kyiv.

Olena Staranchuk
Graphic designer

Works with cultural, educational and social projects. Designs various cultural all-Ukrainian and international cultural events, festivals, forums, and conferences, etc. She is a co-founder of the “Pictoric” club of illustrators, a member of the Association of graphic designers “4-block”. She has been awarded a Gaude Polonia scholarship in 2013.

Anna Ivanenko
Іllustrator, printmaker, designer

Anna is teaching a course of illustration in the “Project” school. Together with Jenia Polosina, she runs the “Seri/graph” serigraphy (silk screen printing) art studio, they often organize educational events related to gravure. “Seri/graph” and “Copy#0” organized the first festival of printing “Printfest 1/100” in Kyiv, in April 2016 together. Anna took part in many festivals held in Kyiv, Moscow, Saint-Petersburg, and Lublin.

Jenia Polosina
Illustration, printmaker and designer

She works with different techniques of graphics and gravure. She has created a “Seri/graph” studio together with Anna Ivanenko, where she organizes events related to print graphics. In particular, the “Seri/graph” studio and “Kopia#0” organized the first festival of printing “Printfest 1/100” in Kyiv, in April 2016. Jenia Polosina participated in the festival “Wschód Kultury” in Lublin in 2013; “Boomfest” in Saint-Petersburg in 2014 and 2015. She lives and works in Kyiv.

Polina Doroshenko
Іllustrator

Graduated from the Kyiv National Academy of Visual Arts and Architecture. Works as a book illustrator, the most famous works by Polina Doroshenko are: “Mice in cheese” (Laurus, 2013), “The Forest Song” Lesya Ukrainka (“Osnovy”, 2014). These works were recognized as the best book illustrations by the international magazine White Ravens in 2014. “Mayechka” (Nebo Booklab Publishing, 2015), “Fedor’s stories” (“Osnovy”, 2016), “The first lace of Stefania”(NBP, 2016), “Soldier” together with an illustrator Vlada Soshkina (“Little Wooden Flute”, USA, 2016). Lives and works in Kyiv.

Oleh Gryshchenko
Painter, illustrator

Oleh Gryshchenko is a co-founder of the “Pictoric” illustrator club, curator of Ukrainian and international exhibitions dedicated to book graphic arts. He is a headteacher in the Department of Graphic Arts at the Kyiv National Academy of Visual Arts and Architecture, where he as well has received art education. He works in the area of arts, book illustration, and design.

Tetyana Denysenko
Painter, illustrator

Studied book graphics at the Kyiv National Academy of Visual Arts and Architecture. She took a part in a variety of exhibitions and graphic design courses: postgraduate course in Interdisciplinary Printmaking, the Eugeniusz Geppert Academy of Art and Design in Wroclaw, Poland, printed graphics course during the International Summer Academy in Salzburg, a workshop during the Illustration Biennialle in Bratislava (BIB) to be named among many other.

Illustrator and designer

A regular member of the “Pictoric” club. Graduated from Kyiv State University of arts and crafts named after Mykhailo Boychuk, study program “graphic design”. Currently, she works mainly in a computer games domain. In 2018, she has presented her personal artwork exhibition in the ‘Orthodox’ gallery. Anna lives and works in Kyiv.

Each Pictoric has a dice colored into the appropriate colour. Before starting the game, each player selects his own pair of “Pictoric+dice” that he wants to play with.

What to expect?

Before starting the game, you can decide in your group whether to play with a magic of surprise-actions or not.
The game can be even funnier and more unpredictable if you choose to add surprise and luck :) This is the main function of the surprise-actions. If you decide to play with the surprise – actions, then the player who becomes an Emcee should take his dice and throw it on a table before the start of each turn. For example, if number “6” appears on a verge of a dice, then the surprise-action near the sector with number “6” becomes effective. If number “3” appears on a verge of a dice, then the surprise-action near the sector with number “3” becomes effective and so on.

The meaning of surprise-actions

You are lucky!
Before making up an association, the Emcee player takes additional move with his Pictoric forward. The number of steps will be detected by throwing dice.

A little unlucky!
The Emcee player should return his Pictoric a few steps back, before making up an association. The number of steps will be detected by the dice. If it is just the beginning of the game – the player should stay at the start.

Oops!... Change of the Emcee player’s cards
The change of cards happens according to the principle: - The number of cards that the Emcee player should get rid of is detected by dice. The amount of cards will be taken blindly away from the Emcee by any player and then these cards are replaced by new cards from the deck of cards.

Total silence
The Emcee player explains his associa- tion to all players without saying a word (using gestures, facial expressions etc).

Very lucky if …
Points, that Emcee player received after the voting should be multiplied by 2. If a player received “0” points – then a player should stay in the same position.

Thematic association
The player, following the Emcee player (clockwise), should tell a topic to the Emcee player. And now the Emcee player should make his own association under this topic. (The player from the left side has to tell general topic to the Emcee).

Emcee.

Each turn of the game one of the players becomes an Emcee. To determine who becomes the “Emcee player” first, each player takes his/her dices and throws it on a table before the game starts. The one who gets more points becomes the first Emcee. If two or more players get the same amount of points, they keep throwing dices between themselves until they pick a winner.

How to play

All cards are shuffled. Each player gets 6 cards.


The game starts with the position "1" on the magnetic field of play


The next step is the following: the Emcee player puts all his cards on the sectors from 1 to 6. These numbers are mentioned on the playing field. All 6 cards should be placed on a table with a “face” up (showing all cards with their images) and from one of these cards, the Emcee player makes up a sentence-association and says it out loud.


When the Emcee player made up an association, he/she should put the dice with a number on it, where his/her card is at the sector, but not to show it to anyone. (You should do it before the voting process. The main idea of it is to avoid cheating from the Emcee side so that you know, that Emcee player has not changed the right answer after the voting).


The main goal of the Emcee player is to be not too obvious and not too complicated within his/her association. At least one player should guess the card, but not all players. The least number of players who have guessed the card, gives better score for the Emcee player.


The voting proces

Each player puts his/her dice “face up” with a number that in his/her opinion matches with a number of a sector, where can be the Emcee player’s true card.
Once everybody has voted – the Emcee player puts his dice with the same number on a verge of it where his/her card is at the sector.

Scoring

If nobody has detected the Emcee player’s true card - then all players receive “0” points.

If all players successfully detected the active player’s true card - then all players receive “2” points. The Emcee player receives “0” points.

All other results of the voting process:

The Emcee player gets the amount of points, that correspond to the formula: 6-Х (where Х –is the number of the players, that have guessed the Emcee player’s true card).


The player, who has guessed the Emcee player’s true card – receives “3” points.


The player, who has not guessed the Emcee player’s true card – receives “0” points.


Players keep moving their “Pictorics” forward on the playing field along the scoreboard the exact number of spaces that they have gotten as points.


Take the next turn

The card, that was made up by the Emcee player (the card, that has just played), should be taken out of the game. The rest cards stay in the hands of Emcee player and he/she takes one more card from the deck. And now the player has again 6 cards.


The game proceeds clockwise for each turn after the first. The next Emcee player does the same.


When the last card has been drawn from the deck of the cards, then players take the cards that have been played before. One player shuffles very well the deck of the cards and they are again in the game.

The end of the game

The winner is the player who has reached the first
the center of “PICTORICBOX” on the field of play.
